Enlisted, 1898, in Troop 2, Squadron A , NYNG, at the Madison Avenue Armory, New York City. He served during the Spanish American War era.

He saw field service with Squadron A during the Croton Dam Strike, April 1900.

April 27-Mat 3 1903, the Squadron took part in the Louisiana Purchase Exhibition ceremonies.
May 30, 1903, Squadro A took part in the dedication of the statue of General Sherman, Fifty-ninth Street and Fifth Avenue, New York City.

He was discharged from Squadron A in 1904.

Two of his sons served in Squadron A, Cittenden Hull Adams 1915-1917 and James Fairchild Adams 1913-1916.
