THE LATE PTE. S. J. FROST.
Mrs. F. Frost of Wagra is in receipt of the following communication from the Australian Red Cross Society in regard to the death of her hero son. Pte. S. J. Frost. who fell at the front last year : — No, 3753, Pte. S.J. Frost. 4th Batt.

Dear Madam,— We send you tlhe following copies of reports, which our ascents have sent to us consisting of statements made to them by the soldiers whose names appear at the foot of the reports :—
He was in my Company D and was Lance Corporal of D Co. Stretcher Bearers. On 4th April we were in the front line about 500 or 600 yards in front of Merris. About 9 a.m. Fritz came over. A Serge. Whitfield was lying out in the open wounded. I saw Frost run out to him with four other stretcher bearers when a machine gun got the lot of them. Frost got hit and was put on a stretcher and taken to Strazeele 1st Field Ambulance, where he died later. I believe the body was buried at Borre Cemetery.' — Informant : Pte. L. McDougal. 4th A.I.F., D. Co. 14th Platoon, No. 2 General Hospital, .Ouai. Havre. 27th Sept., 1918.''

'I was told that Frost was wounded by machine gun bullet when stretcher bearing. He was taken to the dressing station where he died. He was buried at Eblinghem, behind Merris and Armentieres. I saw his grave with a cross upon it with his name on. The ground was held. Eyewitness : No, apart from seeing the grave. Description: About- 5 ft. 8in.: 20 to 30 years, dark hair. His people were well to do farmers. He came from the country. Think his brother lost his voice. Informant ; Pte-Harold Piper, 4th Batt., D. Co. A.I.F. 2nd Western General Hospital. Alfred-st. Home address : Crown-st., Sydney. N.S.W.

Yours faithfully.
