Mark A. French, age 38 years, died accidentally from carbon monoxide poisoning in his living quarters at Jingbei Foreign Language College in Qinhuangdao, China on Monday, March 11, 2002. He was born September 30, 1963 and was raised in Essexville, where he graduated from Garber High School and a member of its swim team. Mark was previously involved with the Boy Scouts and was lifegusrd at the Bay County Community Center. From 1981 through 1995, he studied a broad range of subject matter to advance himself in his education. Mark received his Associates Degree from Delta College (where he was also on its swim team), earned his Bachelors Degree from Saginaw Valley State University, and studied for his postgraduate classes at Central Michigan University. He was currently a language and arts teacher with the Teach In China program through Council Exchanges China. Mark possessed many artistic talents and was an accomplished musician, Chanteur and songwriter, playing quitar with several local groups, including the Dave Kelly Band.
