Alphonse C. Roszko, 83, of Edgewood St., in the Three Rivers section of Palmer, died peacefully on Monday, May 30, 2011 at Wing Memorial Hospital. Born in Worcester, August 2, 1927, he lived in Three Rivers for most of his life. Al joined the Merchant Marines at a young age, and returned home to work at the former Springfield Foundry. He later retired from Triangle Casting in Three Rivers. He was a little league coach for many years, and an avid sports fan. He was a communicant of Divine Mercy Church and also a member of the American Legion Post 130 in Palmer. The loves of his life were God, family, friends and Country. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 61 years, Fredericka (Machnik), along with his son Paul of Danbury, CT, and daughter Susan Hurley of Palmer, his daughter in law Patty Roszko and his sister Stella Misiaszek of Warren. He also leaves his precious grandchildren, Michael Hurley, Jr. and Jennifer, Cynthia (Hurley) Miller and Tim, John Paul Hurley, Dr. Paul Diggins Roszko, and Stephen Roszko and his 3 great grandchildren, who brought joy to his life, Casey and Brent Hurley, and Owen Miller. Many nieces and nephews will also miss him. Besides his parents, his brother Bill Roszko preceded him in death. Calling hours will be Thursday, June 2 from 4:00 7:00 p.m. at the Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home, 1475 N. Main St, (Rte.20). A funeral Mass will be Friday at 10:00 a.m. in Divine Mercy Church. Friends may gather at the funeral home for 9:00 a.m. prior to the Mass. Burial will be at a later date at Mass. Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
