Her full name was Josephine E. but she went by Helen.
Helen was born on September 3 1898 on a farm in Coates, Minnesota, the daughter of William J and Mary (Gillespie) Ryan. Her parents were both born in Ireland and came to America in the late 1860's She was the youngest of eight children.
"Helen attended elementary school in Coates. She moved to Saint Paul at the age of 14. She attended school at Central High School and Rasmussen Business College. She worked as a private secretary until her marriage to Arnold Solberg on October 7 1927. This union was blessed with three children: Mary, Norma and John.
After their retirement, Helen and Arnold sold the family home and moved to Buffalo,Minnesota. Arnold preceded her in death in 1976. Following this, Helen moved to Highland Park in Saint Paul, where she lived until 1999 when she became a resident of the Baldwin Care Center.
Helen was born with an Irish wit that endeared her to everyone who knew her. She was very proud of her heritage. One of her greatest high lights of her life was vacationing in Ireland in 1985. She traveled to the town of Daon and visited the church her father was baptized. Helen was an outgoing person who enjoyed life and the fellowship of others. She loved baseball and was a devout Minnesota Twins fan. She also enjoyed exercising and used to walk five to six miles every day. She and Arnold also enjoyed wintering in Texas for many years.
Helen is survived by her daughters Mary (Bernard) Dwyer of Deer Park Wisconsin; Norman (Carroll) Klanderman of Baldwin Wisconsin; son John (Rosemary )Solberg of Clintonville, Wisconsin. 5 grandchildren; Timothy J. Boettcher-Croner of Saint Paul, Minnesota, Jackie (Stuff) Tyler of Woodville, Wisconsin, John Solberg of Denver, Colorado, Susan Solberg of Houston Texas & Jill Solberg (Karl) Holter; 10 great grandchildren Lisa & Jennifer Croner of Saint Paul, Minnesota, Sarah & John Tyler of Woodville, Wisconsin, James, Asher, Carlton, Elsa, Sally & Wesley of Minnetonka, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her husband, Parents, seven siblings, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral service for Helen Solberg will be at 11:00am Wednesday, Dec 13 at the O'Connell Family Funeral Home. Officiating will be Father Alois Gabrus of St Mary's Catholic Church in Hammond,Wis. Her service will be highlighted with Irish music. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery in Mendota Heights, Minnesota.
Helen's family served as casket bearers. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at O'Connell's.
Funeral services were arranged by the O'Connell Family Funeral Home in Baldwin. Memorial's preferred.
