Robert L. (Bob) Berline of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Monday morning, August 15, 2011, in the Cypress Springs Memory Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he had resided for the last year at the age of 89 years.
Robert L. (Bob) Berline was born on August 27, 1921, in Wellington, Kansas, to Ora and Lee Berline.

He grew up on the farm near Caldwell, Kansas, as a young child, then moved to Blackwell, Oklahoma, where he attended Blackwell Public Schools and graduated with the Class of 1939. After graduation he worked for his brother-n-law at Howard Cleaners until enlisting in the Marine Corps.

Bob enlisted in the Marine Corps in July 1942 and served during World War II. He was in Co. I, 3rd Battalion, 5th Regiment, 1st Marine Division. His campaigns in the South Pacific were: Cape Glousester, Peleliu and Okinawa. He received two Purple Hearts while in the Marine Corps and was discharged in October 1945. After his discharge he farmed and returned to work at Howard Cleaners.

Upon being discharged from the Marine Corps, he married Allene Stoner on August 25, 1945. They spent the rest of their lives living on the farm in Blackwell, Oklahoma. Bob later worked for the Blackwell Zinc Company until the plant closed, before working as Street Superintendent for the City of Blackwell where he retired.

His wife, Allene, preceded him in death on February 1, 2010. He was also preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Helen Ingraham.

Bob and Allene are survived by two daughters and son-in-laws; also a grandson and wife and two granddaughters; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services are scheduled for Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Blackwell, with the Rev. Jeff Koch of the First Christian Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.

Viewing will be at Roberts & Son Funeral Home from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday morning from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

A memorial has been established in his honor with the Alhzeimers Association, the American Heart Association and the Blackwell High School Foundation for Class of 1939 Bell Ringers.
