Firemen To Honor First Tallman Chief

SUFFERN -
Tallman firemen will pay tribute tonight to their first chief, Abram Straut, who died yesterday at his Riverside Drive residence after a long illness.

Mr. Straut was fire chief in 1909, the year the fire department was formed, and held the post for seven years,

The funeral procession will pass the firehouse on the way to the Wanamaker and Carlough funeral home, where flremanic services will be held at 8 p.m. Members of the department will stand, by, while engines are displayed and a bell tolled. William Brubaker Sr. has announced that all firemen in the area are invited to pay their respect.

Abram's sister. Ida May Straut, born 1879 in NJ, married Glode Requa Van Houten 1876-1930. Abram is buried next to his nephew and his wife, Herman Chester and Dorothy Bartley Van Houten. His father was John G. Straut 1857-1930 and his mother was Catherine "Kate" J. Linkroum 1854-1930.
