Fred was born in Kansas City, MO, the son of Julian Amelung and Elizabeth Vernon.

Fred was a very active member of the Colonial Church in Prairie Village, Kansas for 52 years and a member of the choir.

Fred was a veteran of World War II where he served in the Army's Aleutian Island Campaign.

Fred graduated from the University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business. He had a long career in business and government, ending with his retirement from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1981.

Fred loved all things musical. He was a member of the Johnson County Community College Men's Chorus from 1988-1993. He was an active supporter of the arts community in Kansas City.

His son, Theodore F. Amelung predeceased him; his sisters, Juanita Kirby and Virginia Moffett.

Fred is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Alice Bacheler Amelung ; daughters and sons-in-law, Karen V. and Glen W. Froelich, Topeka, KS and Valerie J. and Kevin L. Cable and their daughter, Meredith Marie Cable of Lenexa, KS.
