Services Pending For Baytonian Gary BLACK

Sgt. Gary (Babo) BLACK, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elbert BLACK of 452 Burnet Drive and husband of the former Rhonda WALKER of Baytown, was killed Monday in a traffic accident in Augusta, Ga.

The sergeant was stationed at Fort Gordon in Augusta and had returned from a visit to Baytown for final processing before being discharged from the Army Friday.

The family was notified by the Army of the death of their son Tuesday morning. Details of the accident were not provided, his father said.

The body will be sent to Baytown within the next two days, BLACK said, with a military escort. Funeral arrangements will be announced.

Sgt. BLACK was a 1966 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School and had attended Lee College before his induction into the army two years ago.

Funeral services for Sgt. Gary BRUGH (Babo) BLACK, 22, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Burnette W. DOWLER officiating.

Sgt. BLACK died in an automobile accident in Augusta, Ga., Monday, He had served two years in the Army and had returned to Augusta after visiting Baytown for final processing for discharge from the Army.

A graduate of Robert E. Lee High School, BLACK had attended Lee College before entering the service.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Rhonda BLACK of Baytown; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elbert M. BLACK of Baytown; a brother, Guy BLACK of Baytown; and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Guy R. BLACK of Greenville and Mrs. George F. BRUGH of Houston.

Burial will be in Cedar Crest Cemetery under the direction of Earthman Funeral Home.
