He married Miss Honora Cruise on October 1, 1894. The couple went to housekeeping on the Eckert homestead where they spent their entire married life.
He had eleven children. The names of the children: Jacob, Jr; Arthur; Mabel Mary; Herman; Otis W.; Andrew; Louise; Nora; Glen; Helen; and Marceline.
Mr. Eckert was a faithful attended the St. Ann's Catholic Church in Effingham, KS. During his younger years, he took an active interest in community affairs and served for 20 years as a member of the Arrington School Board.
He died at the age of 73. He had been suffering from heart trouble and complications about a year prior to his death.
