Charles Peter (Chas. P.) Sieder was just a year and a month old when his father Peter tragically died from his logging-related injuries. A few months later, Julia remarried and had a 2nd child named Christina Angeline Damrow (originally, this surname was Damrau, but it was already anglicized to Damrow, and later Demrow) in May 1880. In Feb 1883 Julia died during childbirth, along with the baby, and was buried in Croswell. After her untimely death, Charles was taken to Detroit via water by his Uncle George Sieder to be raised by him while his half-sister was raised by his step-father Gottfried Damrau/Damrow.
His Uncle George taught him bookkeeping skills.
Charles met his future wife Matilda Lillian Frey, his boss' daughter while working for him and his brother. He married her on April 25, 1901. They had two children, a son and a daughter.
Charlie, as he was often called, was a hugely successful self-made businessman in Detroit. He had many successful business ventures involving canvas in various applications including sails for sailboats, awnings, tents, and rooftops for the Ford cars when they rolled out for the first several years. He was highly respected businessman and a friend to many.
He was made a Commodore twice at Detroit Yacht Club. He taught his son and daughter how to sail. He also taught his two grandsons how to sail on Lake St Clair, and raced sailboats too. His two grandsons continued their love of sailing well into their adulthood and beyond and they participated in many races on the Great Lakes.
He was a member of Lochmoor Golf Club.
