Mildred Marion SIEDER was born to Charles Peter SIEDER and Matilda Lillian FREY in Detroit. She lived in Detroit near Lake St Clair all her life, and later moved to Grosse Pointe Park, Wayne Co., Michigan just a month before her oldest child got married. She lived out her last two years in Mt. Pleasant, Isabella Co., Michigan to be near one of her children.

She attended University of Michigan and studied math, did not finish her studies.

She was a lifetime member of Jefferson Avenue Presbyertian Church. She met her future husband Howard Elmer Riley there and married him on 25 April 1930, on her parents' 29th anniversary. They had three children. She was a homemaker and used to iron 21 dress shirts a week!

Her hobbies are varied: 1) photography - especially taking photos of flowers, 2) knitting; she knitted many sweaters including navy sweaters with big block maize M letter on them (University of Michigan block M) and fisherman sweaters. She knitted 17 Fisherman sweaters for all her children and their spouses and all her 9 grandchildren, 3) traveling, 4) and socializing with friends and relatives. She grew up sailing on Lake St Clair and knew how to sail but gave that up after she married her husband. After he retired, she was happy to have a "land yacht" with him. They traveled all over the country with their 30-ft Airstream trailer, especially out west and in Canada.

She's especially remembered for always being interested in family news and staying on top of all of her relatives and her husband's relatives as well. She loved being in touch with all of her granchildren too.
