On July 11, 1945 he enlisted in the US Army at Fort Hayes in Columbus, Ohio. He was honorably discharged approximately one year later. He earned a BA at Williams College in 1950, Williamstown, Massachusetts, and had postgraduate education at the University of Cincinnati. Oliver led a distinguished career with a variety of interests including the real estate brokerage company Bardes International in Naples, Florida, of which he was chairman. Oliver also participated in and led a variety of social organizations, including presiding over the Culver Club of Cincinnati.
Many of Oliver's descendants have also attended Culver: Children Oliver Jr. '71 of Madison, Wis., Priscilla Bardes '72 of Indian Hill, Ohio, Dee Bardes '74 of Cincinnati, OH and Grandchildren Richey Guidi '02 and Christian Guidi '06, both of Las Vegas, Samuel Todd NB'08, '08, of West Lafayette, Ind., and Garrison Todd, NB'06, '09. Final services entrusted to North Little Rock Funeral Home with burial in Mount Holly Cemetery, Little Rock."
