Born in Monkland Station, ON., Dr. Leone N. Farrell was a pioneer in biotechnology and vaccine development at Connaught Laboratories, University of Toronto, from the early 1930's through the 1960'S.
In addition to vital contributions to penicillin and whooping cough vaccine, her development of the
"Toronto Method" of polio-virus production in 1953 was essential to the success of the first polio vaccine, savings millions from the crippling impact of this disease.
