U.S. Congressman. He studied telegraphy, became a train dispatcher and later was a superintendent of railroads. Together with his brothers, they built numerous railroad lines in the United States, Mexico, Canada and the New York Kinderhook & Hudson Railroad. In 1893, he was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-third Congress, serving until 1895. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed his railroad business activities in Florida, until his death at age 72.
