Actually, Uncle Fred was the son of John Carlos Burdick and his first wife, Allabama Brannon, who were married on Christmas Eve,1876, Obion Co, TN. They lived at Walnut Log on the banks of Reelfoot Lake. John Carlos was establishing a wholesale/retail fishing business which first expanded its market to Hickman, Ky then Union City, TN where railroad lines allowed for growth of markets as far north as New York City.

Sadly, Allabama died before 1886. John Carlos married twice more and raised three more children.
1) Fred, 2) Clarence, 3) John Clement,
4) Kathleen Burdick (Owens).
