Frank grew up in Perkinsville, Indiana. He attended Purdue University 1888-1892. He was quarterback of the football team in 1889 and 1891 and was a fullback in 1890. He also played baseball and tennis and ran track. He graduated in 1892 with an Engineering Degree.
He married Appallona "Lena" Benhardt December 15, 1896, in Chicago, Illinois. At the time, Appallona had a daughter who was almost 6 at the time. According to the 1900 census report, the daughter (Applonia Johanna) was listed as Frank's stepdaughter, was born in New York and her father was born in Germany.
Frank had 4 known children...Applonia Johanna, Milda Louise, John S. and Mary Okalrigh Hougham.
