The funeral for William Robert Donovant Sr., 84, formerly of Stultz Road, Martinsville, who died Nov. 27, 2011, at the Blue Ridge Rehab Center in Martinsville, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Roselawn Chapel Funeral Home. The Rev. Wayne Handy will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and other times at the home of a daughter, Patricia Goad, 1833 Figsboro Road, Martinsville.
Donovant was born Dec. 23, 1926, in Henry County to James and Ethel Sands Donovant. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie Mae Brim Donovant; two brothers, Jimmy and David Donovant; three sisters, Betty Ruth Donovant, Mary Martin and Dora Keith; a great-grandson; and a great-granddaughter.
He was a World War II Navy veteran and was of the Pentecostal Holiness faith.
He retired after 30 years of service at Gravely Clock Co. He also worked for Henry County Plywood and cut pulp wood.
Surviving are five sons, William Robert Donovant Jr., Ronnie Lee Donovant, Bobby Dean Donovant and Timothy Douglas Donovant, all of Martinsville, and Allen Ray Donovant of Fieldale; seven daughters, Patricia Goad and Yvonne Thornton of Martinsville, Beatrice Elizabeth Jamison, Mary Ruth Kendrick, Barbara Jean Hall and Sharon Lynn Barker, all of Bassett, and Linda Darlene Hall of Stoneville, N.C.; two brothers, Roy Lee Donovant and Herman Donovant, both of Bassett; 32 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
