This world lost a very kind soul when Anne Huffman, a woman of deep faith in God, passed into the arms of her Savior after a valiant battle with cancer on Dec. 23rd. Anne Corley Robison was born in Lubbock to Polk and Stephany Robison on Aug. 13, 1944. She graduated from Lubbock High School, where she was a varsity tennis letter winner, and from Texas Tech, where she was a member of Delta Gamma sorority.

Anne married her childhood friend, Walter Burl Huffman, on April 7, 1966, and taught two years at Lubbock Monterey High School before leaving Lubbock when Walter went into the Army during the Vietnam War. What followed was a 33-year Army career, during which Anne devoted her life to her family and to helping others.

Anne's selfless devotion to helping others was epitomized during her second tour in Germany when Walt's unit was deployed to South West Asia for Operation Desert Storm leaving many family members behind in Germany. Anne helped to pioneer a concept now formalized in the Army as the Family Support Group when she organized a center to assist the spouses of enlisted soldiers during the soldier's combat deployment. She embodied this same spirit of service when she became a mentor to many and a friend to all during her time as the "First Lady" of the Army JAG Corps and subsequently as "First Lady" and sponsor of the Law Partners organization for student's spouses at the Texas Tech School of Law. In those roles, she received both formal awards and, more important to her, many personal "thank yous" for her consistent support and her caring heart.

Anne was preceded in death by her parents and her youngest son, Ross.

Anne loved many people, but her most devoted love was for her family. She is survived by her husband of nearly 46 years; her son, Burl and spouse Stacy of McKinney; daughter, Becky and spouse Bryan Gillan of Jacksonville, Fla.; and five very important young people who knew her as their loving Grammy: Reese, Megan, and Nathan Gillan, and Corley and Brandt Ross Huffman. Anne is also survived by her sister, Katy Hilliard of Lubbock; her brother, Bill Robison and spouse Carol of Wichita Falls; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and a veritable Army of friends throughout the world, whose lives were enriched by knowing her.
