J.C. Hoffman, 82 Pioneer County Resident Dies

Thursday, November 17, 1938

Jacob Charles Hoffman, 82, town of Browning, Taylor County pioneer, died Tuesday at the Medford hospital of complications due to old age. He had been in poor health for some time, and he was confined at the hospital for a week before his death.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. today, Thursday, at the Pflughoeft and Hartwig funeral home. Rev. J.J. Hoffmann will officiate. Interment will be in the Evergreen cemetery.

He leaves two sons and two daughters; Frank of Medford, Walter of Stevens Point, Elizabeth (Mrs. Jack Miller) of Gilman, and Margaret (Mrs. Ole Oleson) town of Browning; 12 grandchildrren and 13 great grandchildren. He also leaves one brother, Wm. Hoffman of Lakeland, Minn., and two sisters, Mrs. Amelia Hoehne of Berlin, and Mrs. Mary Bauer of Plymouth.

Mr. Hoffman was born July 3, 1856, in Sheboygan county. He came to Taylor County when he was a young man and engaged in carpenter work.

He married Martha Edgerly June 1, 1879, at Medford. They moved to the present home in the Town of Browning Nov. 1, 1900. Mrs. Hoffman died July 3, 1914.

Mr. Hoffman served as register of deeds in the county and was an assemblyman from Taylor County. He was Chairman of the town of Browning and member of the Taylor county board of supervisors for 12 years.
