Martha Hempson Baxter was born to Charles Fillmore Hempson~ 1890-1973 & Martha Moritz. To this union, four children were born. Robert L. Hempson 1918-1987, Karl Hempson & Dorothy Hempson, Svendsen and of course Martha Hempson.

Martha married Robert Winfield "Bob" Becker and they lived in Houston Texas at the Yale Mobile Home Park. Bob passed away in 1965. Martha was lonely and sad after that for a long time.

Daddy was dating another lady named Ruth and then started dating Martha as well. I came to live with my Daddy at age 12 and it was him and me for awhile! Ruth wrote to me in Washington a few times and we were getting to know each other that way. When I arrived at the airport~ No Ruth! Martha was there and not only shocked, I was a little sad.

I had undependable babysitters at the time, so Ruth & Martha would take turns keeping me. Then when Martha had me, Ruth would show up to take me to Lunch outings and the store. She would let me pick out a small toy of my choice. I got a stuffed animal the first two outings. I was feeling uneasy about it, but didn't know why, but it was sure feeling like Momma & Daddy's divorce time again to me. I told Daddy, I didn't want to go anymore.

Daddy forced me to go out with Ruth on another outing for lunch and again ended up in a toy store! This time it was ~~pick one thing~~anything in the whole store that you would want! After that 4th outing and being probed for info etc., I figured out I was a pawn to get a free ticket to marry Daddy! I picked nothing politely and asked to go home.

Daddy asked me one day soon after that, " Whom do you like better, Ruth or Martha?" Well, you know what my answer was! MARTHA! Martha soon became my full time babysitter and teaching me things. Shortly after, they were married and "WE" went on a terrific Honeymoon!

Daddy was different when he was with Martha and I saw Daddy's eyes brighten and laughter in his voice when he was with Martha. I could see he was happy for real this time! He was jolly and giddy with joy with Martha, he had finally found his "Soul Mate"!

Martha Hempson married Claude Eugene Baxter on August 12, 1966 at the JOP's office in the Houston Texas County Courthouse of Harris, County. When it was all done and legal, we were leaving and I was holding hands with both of them and sooo happy! We got into the elevator and I was telling everyone, "My Daddy & Momma just got married!" I looked at Daddy when he squeezed my hand, and his face was red ass a beet! Martha's too! The man got off the elevator, turned around and looked at me (12 years old) and said, "Well it's about time!" hehehe I had no clue back then hahaha!

We lived in Houston Texas at Yale Mobile Home Park. Daddy managed it and Martha did the books and I (Karen Renee') cleaned the swimming pool daily. It was truly a family affair. We did so well and enjoyed it, Daddy bought a Mobile Home Park in Northcrest, Texas, close by Waco. Now incorporated into Lacy Lakeview Texas.

The Park was named, Northcrest Manor Mobile Home Park. Martha did all the office work, she took after her Daddy~~ he was an Accountant and Auditor for many years in New York. Daddy did all the outside work, poring slabs, digging ditches, raking tons of leaves, mowing lawns, making storage sheds from scratch etc. I was Daddy's helper whether it be collecting the garbage and hauling it off via the tractor and a trailer (fun!), or on the other end of a 2x4, leveling concrete that was freshly poured~~ [Mom didn't weigh enough and didn't like to do those things], to delivering the bills Mom made up for the Residents. We were a Family Business and there was always something going on eventful.

Like the time, Mom was trying to locate Daddy in the Park to let him know, a Resident's Humongous Python had got out of his Travel Trailer by accident. The Resident was away and his girlfriend didn't shut the door properly when she came to feed the snake! Mom found Daddy alright! He had hacked that Giant Snake to bits and pieces, that was hiding in Daddy's storage barn that housed grain and hay for the horses! Did I mention my Daddy hated snakes! hahaha! It wasn't funny then but sure was weeks after, when the dust settled, and still is today! Oh my, the memories! I have many like that!

They had some beautiful horses, they were their most prized animals ever! I still today cannot picture either of them riding those horses, but they did and loved to ride together and go feed the horses. They were away from their sight, housed on leased property. Tragically, one day they went to feed them and the Hereford's they had out there, and found someone had shot to death all the horses. I will never forget the looks on their faces as they told us the story. Mixed emotions of anger and grieving, so sad!

Mom had Ferrell cats and she feed them and then we had more cats (22). It was quite a feeding frenzy every day! Mom brought Teacup Poodles into the family and Daddy added a Chihuahua. The there was Chandue a Siamese cat and DumDum a big ole black and white 26 lb. cat. All spoiled rotten! After I married and left the house, they bought a dog named Cody, a Blue Heeler. He was an outside dog. The protector!

My family and Mom & Daddy went camping once together out to Lake Waco in Texas and it was a disaster and we packed up and went home about an hour later. Lol! Mom went with Daddy a few times when they were dating, with the Livingston Family. We found out real quick, that wasn't one of Mom's favorite things to do! She had just tolerated it in earlier years haha!

Martha was very active in working at the Polls at Election time for several years in a row. She was very active in Eastern Star at the Bellmead Chapter 980 in Bellmead, Texas, and held many positions over the years. Daddy was also a member in the same Chapter, so they did many things together and participated in many events. One that was a real hoot and much fun and hard work, was the "Armadillo Gang"! They made Armadillo Eggs for the West Fest, in West Texas for several years. The kitchen had many folks working hard as a team and assembly line!

Martha was also a member of Waco Assembly No. 199 S.O.O.B. and also the MW Merak Temple No. 104 Daughters of the Nile.

Daddy & Mom were members of the Lakeview Methodist Church for many years and then transferred to the Hewitt Methodist Church in Hewitt, Texas, when they sold the Mobile Home Park and retired. They soon became friends with Frank & Bobbie Mae Hamilton. When Martha & Frank passed away years later, Bobbie and Daddy~ Claude Eugene Baxter married.

Mom didn't have any Children of her own, so I was the only one she raised! Guess you can say, I was her Guinea Pig! haha! Mom & Betty had a more grown up relationship, due to Betty being already married when Martha joined our family. So she had an Instant Family, when she married Daddy.

Mom & Daddy made a few trips up to New Jersey to visit her Sister Dorothy "Dot" and her hubby. Dot and Mom were real close in those later years. When Dot's hubby passed away them made many trips. I never went, I was visiting Momma in Washington.

Martha is missed and loved by many. Especially her awesome baking! Many scratch cakes and goodies she made and her cooking was yummy also.

This is a team project and many thanks to Herald for creating the Memorial. Herald passed away and is missed by many for his work and dedication to many families. Cecil Vaden, Jr. inherited the Memorial and did Cemetery photos. Great job- many thanks for your hard work and dedication to many families.
