STAUNTON - Leona (Mowrey) Grogg, 91, widow of Clarence W. Grogg, died Tuesday evening, July 7, 2009, at Envoy of Staunton, where she had been residing.

She was born March 28, 1918, in Harman, W.Va., a daughter of the late Oscar and Maudie Stella (Simmons) Mowrey.

Prior to retiring, Mrs. Grogg was employed by Staunton Steam Laundry.

She was a member of Salvation Army Church.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Roy W. Grogg.

Family includes three sons and a daughter-in-law, Jimmie Floyd of Harman, Robert Paul Mowrey of Elkins, W.Va., and David J. and Betty Grogg of Linville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Rosie and Roger Hamilton of Fishersville and Kathryn and Elmer Sledge of Mount Solon; a stepdaughter, Beulah Hise of Fishersville; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Ruby and Earl Warner, Gertie Bennett and Mabel Pharses; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, July 10, 2009, in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel by Capt. Mike Good. Burial will follow in Oak Lawn Mausoleums and Memory Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Marvin and Sammie Mason, Michael Davis, Sammie Mason Jr., Andrew Floyd and Josh Mason.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Thursday, July 9, 2009, at the funeral home and at other times at 36 First St. in Fishersville.

Memorials may be made to The Salvation Army, 1700 W. Beverley St., Staunton, VA 24401.
