Souderton Independent, Friday, Oct. 18, 1918:
CARRIE, WIFE OF SAMUEL B. BINDER, died very suddenly last Saturday morning. Aged 58 years and 5 days. Although she had been suffering for several years with dropsy and its complications, for several days previous had been feeling quite well. Retired Friday evening in good spirits. About 4 o'clock Mr. Binder was awakened by a grandson who had been staying with them, and then discovered that his wife was lying dead beside him having died of heart failure.

Mrs. Binder was well known in this section, and had a wide circle of friends. She was very active in her younger days, and left an impression of good womanhood wherever she went. She was the daughter of the late Josiah B. and Barbara (Benner) Hartzell; born in West Rockhill township, on the now Warren H. Godshall place, near Telford.

Besides the husband, there survive two children—Richard of Souderton, and Ella; also these brothers and sisters—Andrew B. Hartzell of Telford; Frank B. Hartzell of Philadelphia; Isaac B. Hartzell, in the West; Susan, wife of Jacob Ott of Telford; Ella, widow of the late Henry Godshall of near Telford; Katie, wife of Samuel Wile of Telford.

Services were held at her late residence, on North Main street, on Wednesday afternoon. Owing to the non-arrival of the casket, the remains were not interred until yesterday (Thursday) at the Indian Creek Reformed cemetery. Mrs. Binder was a member of the Christ Reformed congregation, Indian Creek, being confirmed on May 5th, 1877. Rev. James A. Boehm of Sellersville officiated. Funeral Director E.S. Moyer of Souderton was in charge.
