Charles Erwin Grannis was born 31 August 1866 to Robert Edward Grannis and Mary Jane Davis. The second of twelve children, Erwin had very strong morals and was a strict disciplinarian to his own children. Erwin was a friend to his sister's ex-husband, Foster Kilpatrick, and hired him to work the family farm. Erwin had a heart defect called "dropsy" and died from it in 1924. Myrtie nearly lost the farm afterwards, but she later married Foster and together they lived on the farm (which still stands on Wabash Rd.) until Foster's own illness forced them to move.
