Carl Otho Edwards World War II time frame in the 463rd Bombardment Group, 775th Bomber Squadron
Upon arrival in Foggia, Italy in February, 1944, the 463rd BG would operate out of Foggia, Italy to the end of the war.
On October 8th, Carl earned the Air Medal Ribbon as a Staff Sergeant; missions include bombing missions into Germany, Austria, Yugoslavia, Romania, France and Italy throughout the year. Missions included railroad yards, airfields, docks, submarine pens, factories, oil refineries, bridges, artillery placements, and chemical plants.
November 18th saw Carl earning his 2nd Air Medal Ribbon with Oak Leaf Cluster as a Tech Sergeant. Missions were similar to earlier part of 1944, with a notable target of the Daimler-Benz armored tank and Bavarian Motor Works truck factories in Berlin and Munich.
On January 11, 1945, Carl earned his 3rd Air Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters as a TSGT. Missions include more of the same as mentioned above.
Carl earned his fourth AM with three Oak Leaf Clusters on April 7th as a TSGT. He would remain with his crew until the end of the war.
