Gary William Ostertag passed away peacefully on May 25th, at age 58, surrounded by his family after a long courageous battle with cancer. Born in Pittsburg to Frances (Russo) and the late Bill Ostertag, he is survived by his brother Ken (Carol) and sister Rosalee (Jon) Erickson.

Gary married Barbara (Renzenbrink) in 1973 and just celebrated their wedding anniversary of 38 years on May 12, 2011. Gary leaves behind a family he adored: his son Ryan, daughter-in-law Ginny (Floridi) and their sons Max and Ben; and son Eric, daughter-in-law Heather (Stallings) and their daughter Ella. Gary cherished his time with his family and seeing his grandchildren. He is also survived by his beloved in-laws, Rose and Bob Renzenbrink, aunts, nieces, nephews, godchildren and many wonderful friends.

He graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1970, where he was a three sport athlete participating in baseball, football and basketball. As a teenager he played drums with the band "Sir Guys," playing many special occasions and battle-of-the-bands throughout the years. Gary went on to DVC where he played football, and then to Healds Engineering College where he studied drafting design.

After college, Gary worked for John Costanza Associates helping design many local homes and businesses. Always a sharp dresser, he pursued a career in retail, opening Ostertag's Men's Wear. Gary spent many successful years owning and operating the business, going on to specialize in tuxedo rentals, and then adding JC Penney Catalog when the opportunity became available. He operated both businesses together until his health forced him to retire in 2006. Gary loved working and meeting new people, and shortly after his retirement he went on to deliver Meals on Wheels in the area until his health made it too hard to continue. Gary belonged to the Vincent A. Davi Memorial Scholarship Committee and the Pittsburg Elks Club.

A prayer service will be held on Wednesday, June 1st at 12:00 p.m. at the Most Holy Rosary Church, A St., Antioch. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Gary's name to Holy Rosary Church or the American Cancer Society.
