Josephine M. Overhulser, 79, of 1077 Greenleaf Blvd., died at 11:21 a.m. Sunday (Dec. 14, 2008) in The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care.

She was born Feb. 9, 1929, in Zuru, Nigeria, to Joseph and Mabel (Hygema) Ummel.

Ms. Overhulser is survived by four sons, Joseph L. (Linda) Overhulser of Elkhart, Lyle T. (Brenda) Overhulser of Summerland Key, Fla., James A. (Vicki) Overhulser of Bristol and David P. Overhulser of Adamsville, Mich.; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Ruth Gleason of Fort Dodge, Iowa, and Grace Smeltzer of Elkhart.

She retired as the treasurer of Baugo Community Schools and along with her former husband, owned Del Rey Industries. Ms. Overhulser was the registrar at Bethel College and an organist at Hubbard Hill Chapel for 12 years. She was an author and an award-winning ballroom dancer, and served as a board member of the Greenleaf Condominiums Association.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Waterman Westbrook Clouse Funeral Home, 1129 Prairie St., Elkhart, and one hour prior to Friday's 1 p.m. funeral service at Osolo Missionary Church, 25435 C.R. 6, Elkhart. The Rev. Terry Powell, superintendent of North Central District Missionary Church, and the Rev. Wayne Speicher, chaplain at Hubbard Hill Estates, will officiate. A graveside service will follow in South Union Cemetery, Nappanee, with the Rev. Orville Banks, chaplain at Hubbard Hill Estates, officiating.

Memorials may be given to Prairie Camp, in care of Missionary Church North Central District, 3301 Benham Ave., Elkhart.
