Kathleen Viar Moon

Kathleen Viar Moon, 97, of Lynchburg, died Friday, August 14, 2009, at Westminster-Canterbury.

She was the wife of the late Lt. Col. (Ret.) William P. Moon Jr.

Born in Amherst County, April 10, 1912, she was a daughter of the late Thomas M. and Bessie Sublett Viar. She was a member of Heritage United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Moon was preceded in death by four brothers, David B. Viar, John K. Viar, Thomas E. Viar and Henry D. Viar; three sisters, Louise V. Mischo, Ruby V. Creasey and Nellie V. Overstreet.

She is survived by one brother, Richard Fred Viar, and his wife, Rena, of Madison Heights; a brother-in-law, Dr. H. Shepherd Moon, of Richmond; two sisters-in-law, Hilda Viar, of Lynchburg, and Frances H. Moon, of Hurt; six nephews, E.C. Overstreet Jr., Tim Viar, Kenneth Viar, Henry L. Moon, Charles Perkins and Henry Shepherd Moon Jr.; three nieces, Cathy Hudnall, Judy Butler and Kathy Hall; and a number of additional nieces and nephews.

The Rev. Charles Stinson will hold a funeral service at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 18, 2009, at Diuguid Wiggington Chapel. Burial will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, August 17, 2009, at the funeral home.

Diuguid Wiggington Chapel (385-8900) is serving the family.
