On September 8, 1944 she entered the Dominican Sisters at Marywood and received the name Sister Marie Emile of the Immaculate Conception (Marie and Emile being the French forms of her parents first names). She professed her vows on March 14, 1946. In 1947 she began her first of 14 years of teaching. Then in 1961 she assumed the role of principal which she would continue for the next 23 years at four different schools.

In 1984 Sister joined the Office of Finance for the Grand Rapids Dominican Sisters and served as Custodian of Budgets for the next six years.
