Local morning radio host Jon A. "Big Jon" Ferrara passed away at the age of 45 following a massive heart attack.

He was a member of the Ooltewah United Methodist Church and served with the US Air Force in Vietnam. He was also a member of the Decatur Amvets, post 90 and was key in organizing the declarations of support petitions for the troops serving in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm.

Best known as "Big Jon Anthony" to listeners of local radio station US-101 for seven years, He also worked for Colonial Broadcasting and WLWI. He was a finalist for the Country Music Association Broadcast Personalities of the Year Award, and winner of the Billboard Magazine Air Personality and Program Director of the Year award.

Besides his professional radio work, he was also an amateur radio operator and member of the Cleveland Amateur Radio Club holding the callsign KJ4GK.

Preceding him in death was his mother, Virginia Ferrara.

Services were held at 11am on Wednesday 20 Nov 1991, Rev. Randall Martin presiding. Interment was in Salem Cemetery, Honoraville AL.
