Greely Davis of Kentland Dead
John Greeley Davis, 81-year old brother-in-law of George Ade, celebrated Hoosier humorist, and writer, died of a heart attack at him home in Kentland Saturday evening at 7:30 o'clock. He had been in ill health for a month.
Mr. Davis was well known in Newton county as an attorney and former local official having held the offices of county clerk, town clerk and county auditor over a period of forty years. He had not, however, held office for the last ten years.
Mr. Davis was born in Troy, Ohio, the son of Charles W. and Hannah (Lawshe) Davis. On January 19, 1876, he married Miss Alice Ade, sister of George Ade and of Mrs. W.T. McGray, wife of the former Indiana governor.
Surviving are two sons: Harry of Holywood, Calif.; and George Ade Davis, of Oklahoma City, Okla; one brother, Charles Jr., of Los Angeles, Calif., and one granddaughter.
Mr. Davis was a member of the Knight of Pythias and of the Methodist Episcolpal church.
Funeral services in charge of the Rev. M.C. Biahop, were conducted from the family home in Kentland at two o'clock Tues. afternoon, with burial in
Fairlawn cemetery.
