Eugene T. Minott was the youngest of three children born to Thomas and Margaret Minott. His father worked as a shipbuilder. Eugene was an excellent scholar and athlete, who graduated from the Hebron Academy and entered Bowdoin College in the class of 1898. For several years he held the pole vaulting record for Maine and was a member of the Bowdoin track team.

Minott joined the Delta Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. He was honored with election to the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. After graduation he was immediately hired as a teacher at the Wilton Academy in western Maine. Three months later he died suddenly from acute appendicitis.

A publication from Bowdoin College stated "Mr. Minott was a young man of exemplary character of an unusually sunny and lovable disposition and had won the esteem and friendship of all who were acquainted with him."
