Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General. An 1823 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York, he was serving as Major of the 7th United States Regular Infantry when the Civil War started. He served as Mustering and Disbursement Officer in Detroit, Michigan until he retired from the service in 1861. He was brevetted Brigadier General, US Regular Army on April 9, 1865 for "long and faithful services".
