Marguerite Emma Abicht was born to Frank Henry (Franz) Abicht to Emma Josephine Mosser. Their union took place February 3, 1903 at Lacrosse, Wisconsin, Lacrosse County.

Born to this marriage was, 1 boy~ Edmund William Abicht 1906-1988 and 4 girls~ Viola N. Abicht 1903-1948, Irene Louise Abicht 1905-1965, Dorothy Agnes Abicht Johnson, Gill 1907-1987, Leona "Tootsie" Josephine Abicht 1909-1981. Other families nicknames Leona, "Leonsie".

According to my Grandma Dorothy Agnes, she use to tell me stories of herself, Edmund and sister Marguerite "Rita" About how close the three of them were and how she missed them so much! She explained it as they were the "Three Musketeer's", but she loved all her siblings.

I remember asking Grandma, why Aunt Rita left her home and family to go away to be a "Nun"? Grandma told me, it was a calling Aunt Rita felt inside of her and it was so strong, she had to follow it! I was really young! Lol! I now know that to be the calling of the "HOLY SPIRIT" which you get when you become a Christian and ask Jesus into your heart. Grandma went her way, Edmund went his way and Marguerite Emma "Rita" Abicht, now matured and morphed into Sister Rita Jeanne, and blossomed beyond anyone's imagination!

She became, "Mother Superior", at one point and then she just kept achieving goals and doing what she could for the Glory of the Lord! I have never seen an elderly lady with so much energy! She made the "Energizer Battery Bunny", look sluggish! Aunt Rita went on and her life became devoted to God and to those God led her to cross paths with.

Aunt Rita talked with her Grandpa a lot and cherished the time they spent together, listening to his guidance. Then she was counseled with these guidelines.

1. Listen to God in your life.
2. Know your heart's desire.
3. Pray for freedom and guidance.
4. Search out data.
5. Talk with someone you trust.
6. Make a decision.
7. Experience peace with that decision

She entered St. Rose Convent on Sept. 4, 1931, and professed vows in 1934. Sister Rita Jeanne began her education career as an elementary teacher for two years and then was a business in high schools in Iowa, Washington and Wisconsin for 27 years, including seven years at Aquinas High School, La Crosse. From 1964 to 1968, she served the Franciscan Sister of Perpetual Adoration (FSPA) congregation as director and as the first communications director until 1981. Sister Rita Jeanne also served as executive secretary for the La Crosse Diocesan Pastoral Council for many years. She received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Journalism Education Association in 1998, and a scholarship was named in her honor. She had been a member of the organization for more than 43 years. Sister Rita Jeanne retired at St. Rose Convent in 1981 and to the villa in 2001. Officially though, she never knew the meaning of that word "Retired", till she was resting in the arms of Jesus and that started the beginning of her Eternal Life ! She definitely was a positive role model for many, and loved by everyone!

I will never forget, Daddy had a (IAM) International Association of Machinists Union Convention to attend, in Galveston Texas and had invited Aunt Rita to talk as a guest Speaker! I was so shocked to see here there. In a young child's eyes, "Nun's belonged at Church!" Lol! Her schedule was real ridged and tight but to my delight, she carved out time for me! I admired and loved her as a child and still do today as a adult! She is missed by many. It's hard to share a loved one with the world, but then again ~ God knows everything! Does everything for a reason, a time and the right season. God never makes mistakes, so when God chose Aunt Rita to share with the world and gave her long life and raised her through maturity, God turned a Rosebud into a Gorgeous blossoming Rose, like none have ever seen before!

Sister Rita Jeanne Abicht, Franciscan Sister of Perpetual Adoration, was 92 years Young, and died at Villa St. Joseph, La Crosse. She died doing what she loved to do! Aunt Rita lived life to it's fullest extent, always pushing the limits to do even better and more, no matter what it entailed. She was a "Doer"! She outlived her whole family! God made her special!
