Reuben B. Zimmerman, 71, of rural Northfield died Jan. 18, 1993, at Northfield Hospital following a brief illness. Visitation will be held today (Wednesday, Jan. 20) from 4 to 8 p.m. at Bierman Funeral Home in Northfield. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 21, at 2 p.m. at Northfield Moravian Church with the Rev. Phil Strom officiating. Music will be provided by vocalist Charles Bickel. Pallbearers will be Art Nelson, Joe Smith, Tom Warner, Tom Brodin, Leonard DeWolfe and Willard Estrem. Honorary pallbearers will be Andrew Hanson, Obert Eggum and Ralph Grosser. Burial will be at Oaklawn Cemetery in Northfield. Zimmerman was born Dec. 30, 1921, to Benjamin and Esther (Luhman) Zimmerman on the family farm east of Northfield. He attended District 94 country school and following school remained farming with his parents. He also hired out to neighbors when there was extra work to do. Zimmerman served during World War II for two years and was stationed in Japan for one year as part of the Occupation Forces. Following the service, he returned to farming. He, along with his brother, Raymond, continued with dairy farming into early 1980. Zimmerman expanded his crop acres and also worked with custom spraying and combining. He was still completing this past fall's harvest and making plans for this coming spring's planting. Preceding him in death were his parents. Survivors include a brother, Raymond, of Northfield; a sister, Gladys (and Robert) Tralle, of Northfield; a niece, Nancy Jo Tralle, of Northfield; two nephews, Robert Tralle Jr. and Steven Tralle, both of Nerstrand, and two grand-nieces.
