John E. Starlin, 90, Wymore, died Thursday afternoon, March 9, 2006, at the Wymore Good Sanaritan Center. He was born Sept. 2, 1915, at Vesta and spent his childhood in the Vesta, Crab and Tecunseh area. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from Aug. 23, 1944, to Jan. 9, 1946, and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was employed as a taxi driver and by Beatrice Motor Freight and Behrens Construction, all in beatrice, and was the first one to pump gas at the Marples Truck Stop when it opened in Wymore. He was a carnival worker and worked at the Gambles Store in Wymore until his retirement. He married Beradine L. Reed on Aug. 10, 1956, at Sidney, Iowa. They moved to Wymore from Beatrice in 1966. He was a member of the Wymore Church of Christ, Anderson Post 25 of the American Legion at Wymore, and the VFW. His hobbies included gardening, dancing, especially to polka music; plaing practical jokes; and spending time with young children and giving them quarters.
Survivors: sons, Gary Starlin and wife Denise of beatrice, John Allen and wife Jean of Bonner Springs, Kan., Charles Starlin and wife Cybil of Cherokee, N.C.., John Starlin and wife Annette of Fresno, Calif; daughters, Vickie Detter and husband Randy, Barbie Warford and husband Roger, all of Beatrice, Sharon Hindera of Lincoln, Karen Beck and husband Bill of Liberal, Kan., Willa ray and husband Kenneth of Elverta, Calif.: 15 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild: sister, Thelma Chard of Tecumseh; brothers-inlaw, Harry Reed and wife Barb of Jerome, Idaho; Jim Reed and wife Betty of Cortez, Colo.: sister-in-law, Vera Marbles of Springfield, Ore.; nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Andrew Tilden and Anna(Reedy) Starlin; wife Bernadine (April 13, 2000); Son, Edward Starlin (May 17, 2004); sister, Ethel Stuteville Foster; and brothers, Charles, Albert and Carl Starlin.
Funeral: 2p.m. Tuesday, March 14, at the Wymore Church of Christ, U.S. Highway 77 and M Street, Wymore, Clayton Lunstedt and Kevin Redfield officiating. Burial: Blue Springs Cemtery with military service by Anderson Post 25. Visitatio: 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. - 11 a.m. Tuesday at Laughlin-Hovet Funeral Home, 505 N. Ninth St.., Wymore, and at the church one hour preceding the service. The family will recieve friends at the funeral home from 7 p.m. - 8p.m. Monday. Memorial established with the funeral home in charge. Laughlin-Hoevet Funeral Home, Wymore, in charge of arrangements.
