Redding B Burns was a veteran of the Civil War fighting on the side of the Union. He enlisted as a Private on 29 March 1864 in Company F, 83rd Infantry Regiment Pennsylvania. On 28 Jun 1865 he mustered Out Company F, 83rd Infantry Regiment Pennsylvania at Washington, DC as a Corporal. His Obituary states that at one time he operated a livery business in Meadville, PA. The "Gazetteer and Business Directory of Crawford County, Pa. for 1874" says his livery business was located at the corner of North & North Main. He lived the majority of his life in Meadville. On July 8, 1885 he applied for his Civil War Pension under the class of "Invalid." I assume he did this due to his pyschiatric problems as evidenced by him spending the last two years of his life at the Warren State Hospital, Warren, Pennsylvania. He died in the hospital at the young age of 55. One wonders if he suffered a life of PTSD due to his time in combat.

Reading B. Burns was the son of Wilson Burns (abt 1820-abt 1872) and Mary Ann Pike (1824-abt 1877) in Crawford Co. PA). Wilson Burns is the brother of Reading Beatty Burns who is also buried in Greendale Cemetery.

Reading married Julia Boyles and they had three children: Minnie Burns Swartz(1867 - 1963), Trace B. Burns (1875 - 1925), and Clarence Morgan Burns (1890-1971). Minnie is buried in the same cemetery lot as his parents, and Trace is buried in the lot next to his parents. Clarence died 25 April 1971 in Bay Village, Rocky River Twp, Cuyahoga Co., Ohio.
