Son of William Walter Amburn and Clara Robertson. Husband of Evelyn Frances Martin (ma. 1939).

Mr. Sanford Ray Amburn, 100, of 1237 Lincoln Street in Eden, passed away early Saturday morning, February 11, 2012 at Morehead Memorial Hospital.

A graveside service of remembrance will be held at 10:30am on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at Ridge-View Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Amburn was born in Surry County, NC on June 3, 1911, a son of William Walter and Clara Robertson Amburn, both deceased. He retired as a supply room supervisor from Fieldcrest Mills, and was later self-employed as a home improvement contractor. He was a member of Riverview Presbyterian Church for over 69 years, where he served as an elder and a Sunday School teacher. He was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. He was a man who truly knew the meaning of the term "unconditional love" and spent his life giving it to his family and friends.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Mrs. Evelyn Martin Amburn; his son, J.R. Amburn of Eden; his daughter, Jo Sherwood and husband, Steve of Eden; his brother, Nelson "Buck" Amburn and wife, Lorraine of Eden; his grandchildren Karen Michelle Sherwood Dallas and husband, Keith, and Jami Renea Amburn Minton and husband, Bradley; his great grandchildren, William Sherwood Dallas, Steven Whitley Dallas, Charlotte Minton, and Ell Minton; his special nieces, Georgia Earles and Gloria Corum; and special family friends, Mary Curtis and Nikki Beavers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Grady Amburn, Bill Amburn, and Jack Amburn; his sisters, Violet Amburn Lester and Dahlia Amburn Troxler.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8pm on Monday evening in the Parlor of the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany, 538 Henry Street in Eden.

The family wishes to express their special gratitude to Dr. Xaje Hasanaj and staff, Dr. Belayenh Befekadu, and the Morehead Memorial Hospital 4th Floor Nursing Staff.
