Chester Allen Arthur Cochran
June 21, 1889 – September 3, 1954

Born to William M. and Etta Kunkle Cochran, he moved from Kansas to Colorado with his parents at the age of 12. He graduataed from the Western State College of Colorado at Gunnison, and taught school in Grand Valley, CO for five years, later becoming superintendent of the Ouray Public Schools. After teaching at Fountain High School in Fountain, CO, he taught in the Holbrook and Concho, AZ schools for four years, then moved to Buckeye, AZ, where he was on the faculty of Buckeye High School for eight years. He was principal of the Young schools for six years when he became principal of the Payson school. He retired in 1950 after 33 years of teaching. He was a member of the Independent Baptist Church in Payson, a past Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge of Ouray, CO, later a member of the Globe Lodge of Elks. In his younger years he was devoted to scouting, and was a member of the Roosevelt Council in Phoenix. He was a veteran hiker, hunter, horseman and sportsman.

He was survived by his wife, Edith Leota of Globe; three sons, Lt. Col. Orville A. Cochran, National Guard of Arizona, Capt. Emmett C. Cochran of Midland, TX, and Chester A. Cochran Jr. of Young; three daughters, Mrs. Edward V. Frank of Albuquerque, NM, Mrs. James turner of Globe, Mrs. William Wade of Smithville, AR; and a sister Mrs. C.R. Hoolems of Grand Junction, CO.
