A mission from Trinity Church let to the formation of the Free Chapel of Saint John the Evangelist in Newport, RI in 1875. Harriet and her husband Peter from instrumental in the founding of the chapel, having allowed the use of a building she had inherited for the services.
"The room was kept in order and prepared for service by Mrs. Quire for a period of seven months, which work she preformed as a labor of love for our Lord Jesus Christ and His Church. . . . Mrs. Quire departed this life on the 10th day of April, 1883, honored and beloved by all, and she will be lovingly remembered by the congregation of St. John's Chapel, where the last solemn rites of the Church were performed over her remains. The first service of the Church having been held in her house, it was a singular circumstance that hers should be the first funeral solemnized in the Chapel after its enlargement and after the organization of a Parish."
