On Aug. 4, 1951 he married Gayle L. Goldapske at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheboygan Falls. He served in the U.S. Naval Reserve. For 27 years Gene proudly worked as a Sheboygan County Deputy Sheriff, retiring in 1987. He followed in his father’s footsteps and volunteered for the Sheboygan Falls Fire Department. He was elected alderman and held that position for 11 years. He was appointed to the Fire and Police Commission and served 10 years. Pudgy loved his work as caretaker for the Sheboygan Falls Cemetery and enjoyed many interests, camping with his family, fishing and flying World War II aircraft.
On July 31, 1982 he married Penelope (Bertram) Dean at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sheboygan Falls.
Survivors include his wife, Penelope of Sheboygan Falls; two daughters, Nancy (Bob) Wisse and Deborah (John) Blanke; one son, Scott (Abby) Kohlhagen; three step-daughters, Michelle (Brad) Kreidler, Jamie (Jim) Melis and Stephanie Dean; one step-son, Patrick Dean (special friend Bernadette Bilgrien); seven grandchildren, Malisa (Pat) Reschke, Amanda Wisse (special friend Kevin Caldwell), Matthew Wisse (special friend Lisa Walsh), Valarie Blanke, Andrew Kohlhagen, Samuel Kohlhagen, and Kimberly Dean; two great-grandsons, Tyson and Ethan Reschke; one sister, Lois (Kohlhagen) Woveras; two sisters-in-law, Doris (Glen) Hammerschmidt and Gloria (Gerald) Zimmerman; and many nieces and nephews. Pudgy is also survived by his loving dog, Zeke.
Eugene was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Gayle; his brother, Richard; and his brother-in-law, Rodney Woveras.
