Services for Dora McCoy-Centers, 92, of Henderson, will be noon Saturday, April 9, 2011, at Fredonia Baptist Church in Henderson, with the Revs. Bernard Gray, Terry McAllister and Harvel Davis officiating. Interment will be in Wrights Cemetery in Henderson. Arrangements are by Southern Funeral Home. Mrs. Centers died April 6, 2011, in Rusk County.
Born June 23, 1918, in Henderson, she attended Oak Hill Elementary School and graduated from Ned. E. Williams High School in Gregg County in 1937. She then attended Prairie View A&M University.
Mrs. Centers retired from Tatum ISD in 1984, and she was a member of Fredonia Baptist Church from an early age.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed McCoy Sr. and Dora Witcher-McCoy; one child; three sisters, Rossie Sheffield, Lois Manns and Myrtle Johns; four brothers, Drear McCoy, Griffin McCoy, E.D. McCoy Jr. and Tom McCoy; and special friend, Roger Davis.
