Helen Wirey
WARREN – Helen E. Wirey, 80, died Saturday at 11 a.m. in the United Methodist Home.
She was a former Auburn resident and a retired elementary school teacher. She was a member of the Auburn United Methodist Church and belonged to the Auburn Order of the Eastern Star.
She was born Nov. 17, 1907 in Burns City, Ind. to Asher and Mary Catherine (Bowman) Vickers.
She was married Dec. 16, 1933 in Boston to the Rev. Carl Wirey, who preceded her in death June 18, 1984.
Surviving are a daughter, Sarah Keyes, Angola; two sisters, Hazel Sargent, Elnora, Ind., and Iris Knorr, St. Croix, Bahamas; a brother, Lester Vickers, Sun City, Ariz.; three grandchildren, Lon Keyes, Angola, Andra Keys, Greenwood, Mich., and Beau Keyes, Kalamazoo, Mich.
Victor, a brother, and Inez, a sister, preceded her in death.
Friends may call Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at McComb, Dilgard and Cline Funeral Home, Auburn. A special prayer service will begin Tuesday at 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
Services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in the Warren United Methodist Home with the Rev. Basil Falk, chaplain of the home, officiating.
Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Auburn.

Helen E. Wirey died Saturday at the United Methodist Home in Warren. She was 80.
She was born Nov. 17, 1907, in Burns City to Asher Vickers and Mary Catherine (Bowman) Vickers. She married Dec. 16, 1933, in Boston to the Rev. Carl Wirey, a Franklin native who served churches in the Indianapolis area. He died in 1984.
Mrs. Wirey was a retired elementary school teacher.
Survivors include a daughter, Sarah Keyes at Angola; a brother, Lester Vickers of Sun City, Ariz.; two sisters, Hazel Sargent of Elnora and Iris Knorr of San Croix in the Bahamas, and three grandchildren.
Calling will be today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. at the McComb, Dilgard and Cline Funeral Home in Auburn, with a prayer service at 8 p.m. tonight. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Chapel of the Methodist Home in Warren. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Auburn.
