Obituary
Mrs. Sarah Jane Wood
Word was received here the past week of the death at Woodbine, Ia., of Mrs. Sarah J. Wood, widow of the late Henry W. Wood. Both were pioneer residents of Dakota county and resided here until a few years ago.
Mrs. Wood passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. L. W. White, on Wednesday morning, December 3, 1919, in her 83rd year. Her death was due to infirmities of age.
Her maiden name was Sarah Jane Abell, and she was born in Franklin, Delaware county, N.Y., on April ?, 1837. On October 23, 1855, she was married to Henry W. Wood, of the same place, and in the spring of 1858 this pioneer couple came to Dakota City, Nebr., and remaining here until the following year, when they returned to their old home in the east, where they remained until 1868, when they again came to Dakota county, making their home here the major portion of the time thereafter, until the infirmities of age compelled them to take up their residence with their daughter, Mrs. L. W. White, in Woodbine, Iowa, where Mr. Wood died on January 9, 1919, Mrs. Wood following him to that other shore nearly a year later. Both were buried in Ouleout Valley cemetery at Franklin, N. Y., their childhood home. They had spent a long and happy married life of over sixty-two years at the time of Mr. Wood's death.
There were born to this couple five children, two of whom died in infancy; one, George Franklin Wood, dying in 1893, at the age of 26 years, and Mrs. L. W. White of Woodbine, Iowa, and Fred A. Wood, of Sioux City, surviving.
