My introduction to cemetery research was in the early 1990’s when, as an archivist, I was involved in a project researching and photographing headstones and military markers of Civil War soldiers for an exhibit. As I became interested in discovering my family history, cemeteries and their records became a valuable resource. Visiting my ancestors’ grave sites over the years has been a valued experience, in some cases being one of the few tangible traces of them.
For both my personal research and as a freelance genealogist, I have visited cemeteries and enjoyed the landscape and monument architecture, the peaceful ambiance…and I’ve even attended great Halloween tours!
