Joel Cowles Hilton is buried in the center part of the cemetary as you enter it. When I visited it in 1970, there was a tree over the graves. Joel was born in Vermont and came west to Iowa. there he met and married Catherine Mary Dale. They had five children, only three survived. Ernest is buried in Orange, California. Frances Anne is buried next to Catherine. Lewis Hilton was cremated. Joel and his brother Herbert were one of the early farmers that settled Los Alamos.
