6th and youngest son of Hans and Marie (Braastad) Bjornstad. He was born on the Bjornstad farm, located on the west side of the main road that runs between Kapp and Gjovik, near the western shore of Lake Mjosa. He came over to the United States with his brother, Mauritz, in 1907 and worked with his 2nd oldest brother, Kristian, on his farm in eastern North Dakota, near Grand Forks. In 1914, he decided to return to Norway where he purchased the Fauchald farm, which was located south of his father's farm on the same road. He married Petra Baakind on October 26, 1925 and they had three children: Harald (born August 27, 1924), Anders (born February 8, 1926), and Marie (born March 4, 1928; married Magne Holter).
