Mauritz Bjornstad was the 5th of 6 children born on the family farm (Greater Bjornstad Farm) in Norway, which was located on the highway between Gjovik and Kapp, to Hans and Marie (nee Braastad) Bjornstad. He emigrated to the US, arriving on 30 October 1906 on board the ship "Hellig Olav" along with his younger brother, Casper Bjornstad, and resided with his older brother, Kristian Bjornstad, assisting him on various farms around Inkster ND. He never married. He was injured in a farming accident in February 1928 and died from complications (ruptured appendix) on 26 February 1928, as a result of this injury. His older brother, Kristian, is also buried at Inkster cemetery.
