COUSHATTA, LA – Funeral services for Vertis Thomas Weems, 82, of Coushatta, LA will be held at 2:30 P.M., Monday, November 11, 2013 at Rockett-Nettles Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Marvin Burkett officiating. Interment will follow in Springhill Cemetery in Ringgold, LA. Visitation will be held from 11:30 A.M., Monday until service time. Mrs. Weems was born July 19, 1931 and passed away November 9, 2013. She was a long time resident of Red River Parish, cook for many years at Hall Summit School and a homemaker. After moving to Houston, TX, she was in the catering business. Mrs. Weems was a lifelong member of Hall Summit Baptist Church and she enjoyed fishing, gardening, and cooking for family and friends. She touched many lives throughout her lifetime and was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother that will be missed dearly by all those that knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Zelby and Annie Mae Thomas; her husband, Marvel Weems; one son, Ken Weems; two brothers, Billy Joe Thomas and Lawrence Thomas; and two sisters, Jeanette Melton and Francis Barbo. Those left to cherish her memory include two sons, Randall Weems and wife, Meg of Ringgold, LA and Gary Weems of Coushatta, LA; daughter, Ruth Ann Lowrence of Coushatta LA; grandson Kyle Weems and wife, Robyn; granddaughter, Rachel Layfield; two great- grandsons, Tye and Tate Weems; one great- granddaughter, Camryn Layfield; three brothers, Marvin Thomas, Buddy Thomas and wife, Jean all of Milam, TX, Roger Thomas and wife, DeeDee of Pineland, TX; sister, Joyce Valley and husband, George of Milam, TX; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and dear friends, Kathy and Charlie Humphreys of Galveston, TX. Pallbearers will be Ronald Pueblo, Dion Thomas, Jeffery Deen, Lance Webb, Brody Vines, and Marvin Thomas, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Curtis Ray Craig, Paul Snead, Tony Procell, Arthur Nealy, Adam Robbins, and Thomas Lindsey. The family wishes to express a special thanks to the staff of Ringgold Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Regional Hospice of Shreveport, LA, and Bro. Josh Eubanks.
