Actor. Born Michael Lawson Perkins in Aberdeen, Scotland the son of Donald Marriot Perkins, a Church of Scotland minister. After two years service in the RAF, he attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. First worked in repertory theatre in Perth, Carlisle and Bromley. He debuted on British television in 'Suspense' in 1962. He worked almost continuously, appearing in countless television programs such as 'First Night,' 'Crossroads,' 'The Likely Lads,' 'Softly Softly,' 'Dr Finley's Case Book,' 'Albert!' 'Z Cars,' 'Crown Court,' 'Auf Wiedersehen, Pet,' 'The New Avengers,' and 'Coronation Street,' He also appeared in the popular 'Doctor Who' several times against different incarnations of the Doctor in six stories between 1966 and 1988. He made his feature film debut in 1970 with 'The Mackenzie Break,' followed by such films as, 'Force Ten from Navarone' (1976), 'The Riddle of the Sands' (1979), 'All Quiet on the Western Front' (1979), 'Escape to Athena' (1979) and 'High Road to China' (1985). George Lucas cited his demise as Admiral Ozzel in 'The Empire Strikes Back' (1980) as his favorite ever screen death. Such authoritarian roles were a specialty, he played Hitler on screen a record five times including a turn in 'Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade' (1989). He made further appearances in popular series such as 'The Darling Buds of May,' ''Allo, 'Allo,' and in one of his most recognizable rolls, that of Maurice Bronson in 'Grange Hill' which ran between 1985 and 1989. He slowed down in the late 90s taking only half a dozen more rolls before his last in 'Shadow in the Woods' which was released in 2006. He published a memoir, 'Yes, Mr Bronson: Memoirs of a Bum Actor' in 1997, followed by 'Yes, Admiral' (1999) and 'Yes, School's Out! Memoirs of a Bum Actor #3' (2001), and 'Yes It's Photographic: The Party Goes On' (2004).
